About Tossed Brew

Tossed Brew is an independent beer education site. Our tagline, “the beer, and where to find it,” sums up what we care about: understanding what is in the glass, and getting out to the breweries, bars and bottle shops where good beer is poured.

What we cover

We write practical guides to beer styles, food pairing, glassware, pouring, storage, tasting, homebrewing basics and planning brewery trips. The aim is to answer the questions people actually ask at the bar: What is the difference between a stout and a porter? Why does my beer taste skunky? How many breweries can we fit into a Saturday? Our articles page lists everything we have published.

How we write

Every article is written by the Tossed Brew team and based on widely published brewing science, historical sources and style guidelines. We describe categories and techniques rather than ranking specific products, and we do not publish invented tasting scores, reviews or testimonials. Where facts vary (for example typical alcohol ranges for a style) we give approximate ranges and say so. We review and update articles when we learn something new; each page shows its last-updated date.

Drinking responsibly

Tossed Brew is for adults of legal drinking age. We believe that enjoying beer and being responsible go together: taste small pours, eat real food, drink water, arrange a safe ride home before the first round, and never drink and drive. Alcohol is not for everyone. If you are pregnant, taking medication, managing a health condition or in recovery, speak with a medical professional and choose what is right for you. Many of our guides, including brewery trip planning, include standard-drink maths to help you pace yourself.
